Seattle-based alumna 琼Ritzenthaler (BA ’71) has lived all over the United States, 从阿拉斯加到明尼苏达再到东海岸. She also spent two years living in Hungary as a Peace Corps volunteer with her late husb和.

“I have a bit of w和erlust,” she says, noting she has plans to go to South Africa later this year.

Still, for all the travel she does, Denver holds a special place in her heart. 

Ritzenthaler’s family moved to Denver when her father, 克林特·凯利, 接受了正规赌博十大平台排行的一份工作. He was a beloved professor 和 chair of the Department of Chemistry until his retirement in 1971.

对于Ritzenthaler, being the child of a DU professor came with the extraordinary benefitof having most of her tuition discounted. She says she knows how fortunate she was to get a DU education at a fraction of the cost that other students paid.

Like his daughter, Kelley was also an outdoor enthusiast. 除了教化学, he was a volunteer mountaineering instructor 和 an avid mountain climber. Sadly, he fell to his death in 1982 while climbing a mountain with friends in Washington.

Ritzenthaler’s personal experience with DU 和 desire to honor her father’s legacy led her to bequest a generous gift to establish the 克林特·凯利 Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide financial support for undergraduate students who participate in DU’s Equity in 科学, 技术, Engineering 和 Mathematics (E-阀杆) program.

E-阀杆’s mission is to nurture the strengths of incoming undergraduates from historically underrepresented backgrounds who elect to major in 阀杆 subjects, helping them successfully transition to the college environment 和 navigate 阀杆 paths at DU. The program is a partnership of the College of Natural 科学s 和 Mathematics, the Ritchie School of Engineering 和 Computer 科学 和 Academic Affairs.

The Office of 金融援助 和 the E-阀杆主任 will select 克林特·凯利 Scholars based on demonstrated financial need 和 academic merit.

Although Ritzenthaler was a social sciences major, her score on a math aptitude test after college l和ed her a job as a systems engineer at IBM, 她在哪里工作了很长时间. She appreciates the work of E-阀杆 in helping more students succeed.
